Below is a sample list of the many constructions we routinely manufacture. Please also visit our UL Online Certifications Directory for the US (UL – Appliance Wiring Material – Component) and Canada ( UL – Appliance Wiring Material Certified for Canada– Component ) as well as our CSA Certification Listing (CSA) for more information.

Engineers Ask: Agency Approved Power Leads FAQs
What are the tradeoffs between PVC, silicone, and fluoropolymer (ETFE, PFA, FEP) jacket options?
When selecting a jacket material for your power leads, things to consider include required voltage rating, temperature and flexibility requirements, flame retardancy/resistance requirements, and cost.
PVC is generally cost effective, with good flexibility, and a wide range of UL style approvals.
Silicone is more expensive but offers higher temperature options as well as improved flexibility. However, there are fewer approved UL styles.
Fluoropolymers are ideal for high temperature applications and constructions where a thin jacket wall is required. Fluoropolymers are inherently stiffer compounds, so flexibility may be compromised.
What other agencies besides UL and CSA can you work with?
We also work with VDE (Verband der Elektrotechnik) which is a globally recognized German certification widely used in Europe, as well as Intertek (ETL) which can provide a faster and more cost-effective certification process, while still being widely accepted.
Can New England Wire obtain approvals for custom constructions not listed here?
jackets. We have several options available to us when helping to obtain an approval for your custom construction:
- We can research to find the best/most suitable existing style
- We can provide samples and submit these to UL for an extension/modification of an existing style; or
- We can seek a completely new agency approval based on the customizations.
Agency approvals are base level industry specifications. If you need something outside of these specs, we would be happy to customize a solution for you and help you through the certification process.
