New England Wire Technologies' Own Clayton Elliott Judges the District FIRST Robotics Competition
Clayton Elliott, Design Engineering Manager at New England Wire Technologies was a judge at the District FIRST Robotics Competition held at the University of New Hampshire on March 6 & 7, 2014. Representing the industry sector, Clayton worked with a group of judges to evaluate the student teams of the FRC and presented 15 awards for team accomplishments in design, innovation, quality, engineering excellence, creativity, team spirit, and gracious professionalism.
“I was extremely impressed with the overall program and the high-level of participation of the students,” Clayton commented. “Programs like this involve all types of kids in an exciting atmosphere in which STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Math) is treated like a sport,” he added. “These kids are tomorrow’s engineers, designers, scientist, and innovators.”

Engineer Clayton Elliott judges 2014 FIRST Robotics Competition.
The competition involved 1,000 high school students from across New England in which the students had six weeks to design, build, program, and test a robot from a common kit of parts. Teams compete by throwing balls and scoring as many goals as possible during a two-minute and 30-second match. Additional points are earned by robots working together to score goals, and by throwing and catching balls over a truss suspended just over five feet above the floor as they move the ball down the field.

The students were competing for a chance to participate in the national championships which is held April 23-26 in St. Louis, Missouri.
